Board of Directors
NARA is governed by a volunteer board — the national officers and the three territory representatives — who serve without compensation. Board travel is reimbursed only against published IRS mileage and GSA lodging rates, and every reimbursement is reviewed and recorded.
National Officers
NARA’s national board members are elected by the membership to provide vision, direction and accountability for NARA’s mission. They keep the organization member-driven, transparent and responsive to the amateur radio community.

Territory Representatives
NARA is organized into three territories — Eastern, Central and Western — ten regions, and individual states, so every member has representation close to home while staying connected to the national community.
Territory board members provide leadership and oversight across their territory, guiding policy and working alongside regional and state representatives to connect local concerns with national priorities.
How the country is divided
Three territories, ten numbered regions inside them, and the states themselves. A territory representative covers a third of the country, a regional representative one numbered region, and a state representative one state — the state representative is the one closest to a club.
- Eastern Territory: regions 1 through 5, from New England down the Atlantic coast and west to the Great Lakes.
- Central Territory: regions 6 and 7, the plains and the south-central states.
- Western Territory: regions 8 through 10, the Rockies, the southwest, the Pacific coast, Alaska and Hawaii.
Regional Representatives
Regional representatives lead across several states, supporting state representatives and bridging local concerns and the national board. The ten regional representatives also act as an advisory body to the board of directors.
State Representatives
State representatives are local ambassadors for NARA: they connect members in their state to the organization, advocate for members’ interests, and work with clubs and individual operators to strengthen participation in amateur radio — licensing classes, public outreach, operating events and emergency communications alike.
