The National Amateur Radio Alliance (“NARA”, “we”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through usnara.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you contact us, apply for an award, register as a presenter, request a presenter, submit or update a club listing, or create an account, we store the details you enter on that form.
- Account information. For members, board members and administrators we store your name, email address, callsign, role and, for directors who submit travel reimbursements, a home address used to calculate mileage.
- Technical information. Our web server records standard log data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Login attempts are logged to protect accounts against brute-force attacks.
How we use it
- To respond to your inquiry, application or request.
- To operate the programs you asked to take part in - for example, emailing a presenter when a club requests them, or emailing the awards committee when an award application is submitted.
- To administer accounts, authenticate users and maintain an audit trail of administrative actions.
- To calculate and record board travel reimbursements against published IRS and GSA rates.
What we share
We do not sell personal information. Limited information is shared where it is inherent to the service you requested: a presenter receives the contact details of the club requesting them; an award verifier receives only the applicant’s name, age, license class and contact information. Club listings are published publicly - do not submit a home address unless you intend it to be public.
Some features rely on third parties, including the Google Maps Platform (distance and geocoding), the GSA per diem service (lodging rates), our email provider and our web host. Their use of data is governed by their own policies.
Retention and security
We keep records for as long as needed for the purpose collected, and longer where a nonprofit record-retention or tax obligation applies. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Uploaded documents and receipts are stored outside the public web root and served only to authorized users.
Text messages and phone calls
Members may choose, at their notification settings, to be reminded by text message or automated phone call before their FCC amateur radio license expires. Reminders are sent at 90, 60 and 30 days before the expiration date - at most a few messages a year. Message and data rates may apply.
The mobile number you give us for those reminders is used only to send them. No mobile information is sold, rented or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-message originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with anyone. The number is passed only to the messaging carrier that delivers the message on our behalf.
You can stop the reminders at any time by replying STOP to a message, or by switching them off in your notification settings. Reply HELP for help, or write to cq@usnara.org.
Your choices
You may ask us to correct or delete information we hold about you, including removing a club listing, by writing to cq@usnara.org. Some records must be retained for legal or financial reasons.
